Lithium Iron Phosphate technology

Although they aren't up to the energy densities of other lithium technologies, yet, the safety factor could be the big selling point. I thought the little video on these guys home page was pretty cool. It shows what happens during a nail piercing test.

Yes. I think these are like the new 'A123' cell technology..sort of halfway between lithium and nickel technologies.

Heavier, but a lot less fragile. Probably THE car propulsion battery technology in less demanding applications.

For cars you need wide operating temperatures, ultra safe, moderate discharge rates and good charge retention. These seem to fit the bill..without TOO much of a weight penalty.

BEV prospects just keep getting better all the time. There is a bit of a shortage of cobalt too..these don't use it..

I hope you will pardon some of us OF's who view many of these "Shortages" as little more than a hoax to raise prices perpetrated by the people who HAVE something to sell.

Anybody remember "The Great Toilet Paper Shortage" back in 1973 ??

Happened 2 months after OPEC cut us off, and there was a supposed gasoline shortage.

In this case its not a hoax..Coalt and copper tend to be found together, and the copper is in short supply..and there hasn't BEEN much use for cobalt before LIPOS..specialist steels and magnets..and a few dyes..

Its largely mined in the Congo..not a hugely stable political area..and a glance at this article and the map therein, shows how its uptake haas increased dramatically since LIPOS hit the scene.

Arguably it was one one the biggest reasons for not being able to priduce volume electric cars..

Never happened over here.

We don't use gasoline to truck in bogroll.
