I sent my payment to LUGNET over a week ago after receiving an email
saying my application was approved and I would receive a member number
after they received my payment.
According to my Pay Pal account the money was transferred and the
transaction was completed a day after my payment was sent.
"Please include the following confirmation number with your payment:
191-612"
And nothing heard since. (over one week now) I have emailed the
membership email twice and have, as yet, to hear anything from them.
I am getting a bit concerned.
I am on a limited income so any amt of money for me, above my normal
expenses, is a big thing for me. From past experience from purchasing
thing online I have never waited more than 24 or at most 48 hours to
receive a confirmation email or some reply.
Is this normal and if it is including the phrase
"After we receive your membership
fee,
you'll receive a confirmation via email.'
in the initial email seems a bit misleading.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
D. Wester

Re: Payment sent to LUGNET over week ago.. nothing heard
Thanks I guess I'll give it a little more time. I am still a tiny but
ticked considering it did say I would receive an email once payment
was received and not something like... when membership was processed
or it may take a few weeks for completion of membership activation
upon payment or something like that.
I did go to the site at look when new memberships were listed and they
do seem to be in large blocks on only a few days every month. As most
as if they were all done at once. I can't imagine all those persons
joined on the same day each time, if you know what I am trying to say.
Thanks for your help

[snip]
I've tried to join two times in the last week and not gotten so much
as a single email. Nothing. I played on Lugnet before they turned
"members only", but stopped when it locked down. I'm not debating
that decision, I just didn't want to deal with another setup with
magic numbers and other things I keep losing. Now I can't get back in.
Thank goodness for RTL still being here.
<still waiting>

What *are* you talking about? Lugnet isn't 'members only'. I've never been a
member and have *no* problems both reading and posting. Lugnet is completely
open, the only thing is that you have to give them a valid email address.

Odd. I thought so too - but my posts are being rejected even though I did
go through all othe "terms of use" pages and other things. I figured that
I couldn't post or get a login without joining, which I tried to do, but
haven't gotten any response yet. So I _am_ doing something wrong there,
I'll have to pay more attention.

reply:
Results:
* Your message was not accepted
* Response from the news server:
441 New Users Start Here: http://news.lugnet.com/news/post/setup/
Things you should double-check:
1. Have you completed the News Posting Setup procedure?
2. Have you received confirmation via e-mail that the server is ready to
accept messages from you?
3. Was your message properly addressed to a newsgroup on this server?
Even after I have gone and filled out those pages. I used to be able to
post, but I can't any more.

Re: Payment sent to LUGNET over week ago.. nothing heard
OK, then something has been changed in your posting setup - all the headers
must be exactly as when you (a long time ago) registered for lugnet. And
when you register on the "New users start here" page you will not be able to
post until a human being has processed the registration.
Is this you? http://news.lugnet.com/harrypotter/?n 60 If so, it should
work if you use those settings, the problem is that the confirmation mail
will be sent to whatever "True E-mail Address" you had registered at the
time...

Re: Payment sent to LUGNET over week ago.. nothing heard
Have you received the 'new user confirmation email'? As far as I know,
that's a completely manual process, and neither Todd nor Suz (the
creators/owners of lugnet) are very active any more. There should be some
more people with enough admin rights to accept new posters, but there has
been quite some turbulence and things are not working as one would
expect/hope. I thought the ownership of lugnet was about to change hands,
but haven't seen any messages about that for a while.
When posting messages, your headers must also be *exactly* the same as those
you registered, both the user name and email address. If not, you will only
get to the "New users start here" page every time you want to post.
Next, a post is not really posted until you have acknowledged the
confirmation email (one for every post!), either by replying as indicated in
the email, or through the web page given in the confirmation mail.
This confirmation step is a bit awkward, but you can get rid of it by
becoming a paying member, although it seems it can take forever before
you're entered into the system (I've seen posts on lugnet where people paid
6-7 months ago, and are still not activated).
It works good enough for me without being a member - I read and post with
Outlook Express, and when the confirmation emails arrive I click on the link
and confirm on the web page.
If you want, I can forward a post for you to news.lugnet.com/admin/general ,
just post it here or send it to blockcad AT gmail DOT com

I would love it if you could do that - I've tried sending email to the
