Genie door opener modifications

Hi people, I have an older genie bluemax 1/2hp door opener that I am using for a gate opener and it all works fine except in heavy winds.

On windy days when opening it thinks the windload on the gate is something obstructing the door and swaps to closing again. I have to wait until the wind gust drops and it opens fine.

Is there any way to adjust the obstruction load? Or better yet disable it?

Thanks in advance

Best bet: lessen the wind load on the gate.

2nd Best: redesign the pivot angles for less stress.

Disable it and either break a chain or bend the gate in half while it takes out the side of a car? Suuuuure. Brilliant!

Swinging gate or sliding gate?

Wind load is distributed while obstruction load is usually point-contact. If you override the load limit of the Genie to deal with wind, I would add a contact bar or pressure hose with a microswitch or something so obstruction loads will still be dealt with safely.
