NEED HELP ON MAXIMAT 7

I just bought a Maximat 7 mill drill lathe that needs some work but it came without any manual or parts list--can anybody out there help me find a copy--I will gladly pay for a photocopy, original, or whatever (scanned copy?), It looks like a nice compact machine for a old retired guy like me to spend some time on learning some basics! Any help or leads will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Bill

Hi, Spokanebill. Does that mean you are in Spokane, WA? My Maximat 7L was originally purchased by a gentleman from Spokane. I bought it from an engineer near the U of Washington.

There is a Yahoo group dedicated to the Emco lathes,

They have copies you can download of all the manuals you will need. Also answer specific questions you might have.

What kind of work does your unit need? Did you get the gear set for threading? Anything I can help with?

Good luck. Paul in Central Oregon

Yes, I do live in Spokane since 1965. I went to college at Gonzaga in the late fifties, liked it here and moved back after a few years in Montana and Wyoming. I'm new to metalworking so I need those manuals to get off on the right foot. I think I got all the gears but don't know for sure yet! I have a missing gib and a broken plastic gear for sure--haven't even gotten the machine inside the shop yet to really check it out. Thanks for the lead on the Yahoo group! Bill Mackin

Bill,

If you are really stuck, email me and I will get you a copy of the manual for the Maximat 8 and V10P. At least these provide some guidance if all else fails.

Hi, Bill. Well, I waded through the snow to the shop this morning! All 4-5 inches. Pulled out the stack of change gears and the manual and made you a list of what came with my Maximat 7L.

The following change gears are for threading:

70, 65, 60, 55, 50, 45, 40, 30, and 25. Also needed are an extra keyed t-nut and shaft assembly to fit the gears and a spacer for when a gear is not required and a "C" washer to go on the end of the gear mount assembly to keep the gears in place. All the gear mounting assemblies in the lathe have a "C" washer.

Inside the end cover of the lathe are:

80, 75, 20 and 20. These give the .002 and .005 cut using the inch lead screw, which is 16 TPI, Check yours. Could be metric.

I also have two spare plastic gears for the tumbler assembly that sets the lead screw direction of rotation. These have a small roller bearing pressed inside with "HK1010" on the bearing.

There should be a threading/gearing chart inside the cover. Pretty hard to use without a flashlight and a stool to set on while trying to decipher it. A printed chart is a lot easier.
