Ford EcoBoost Engines Can Suddenly Fail Creating Dangerous Conditions

"Consumers who own or lease vehicles equipped with Ford's EcoBoost engine h ave reported hundreds of reliability and safety issues. Many such complaint s relate to the EcoBoost engine suddenly and unexpectedly shuddering, shaki ng violently, stumbling, misfiring, rapidly losing power, or going into lim p mode while a driver is operating the vehicle. Some consumers report sudde n shutdown of their EcoBoost vehicle or total loss of power. This often hap pens when vehicles are operating at highway speeds or are otherwise acceler ating and is often accompanied by loss of control of the vehicle, loss of p ower steering, loss of airbag functionality, and loss of use of locks and w indows. This creates a dangerous condition for the driver, their family and other passengers, and other drivers on the road.

These dangerous conditions are likely caused by a defect in Ford's design o f the EcoBoost engines. Despite the dangerous vehicles often being under wa rranty when the defect manifests, consumers have reported that Ford refuses to repair the EcoBoost engine and make these vehicles safe to operate. Oft en, when consumers who suffer from these dangerous conditions take their ve hicles to Ford-authorized dealerships, the dealerships tell the consumers t hat they cannot re-create the problem and thus cannot repair the EcoBoost e ngines. In some instances, if consumers complain enough, the Ford dealershi ps make an inadequate repair (replacing the MaP sensor), which does not act ually fix the defect. Many consumers report that their EcoBoost engines hav e shutdown or stalled multiple times--even after the Ford dealerships claim to have made repairs. Yet, Ford continues to deny a problem exists or prov ide an adequate repair for the EcoBoost engines."

Water accumulates there for the same reason it does in your air compressor.

Jonnie Bonkers is quoting an ambulance-chasing law firm that was trolling for customers. In fact, the NHTSA investigated and found out that it was being cooked up, and there was no need for a recall.

That was a couple of years ago. Ford has since fixed the problem in production:

Also, note that the new F-150, the aluminum-bodied one, got a 5-star safety rating from NHTSA:

Earlier, steel-bodied F-150s never got a 5-star rating. It's in the engineering, not in the material.
