Boxford VMC 190

I'm hoping to restore a Boxford 190 VMC to working order. It's complete but lacks an external controller (PC or BBC) and software.

From a manual I found on the web, it seems that it acceptc g-code. But it's not clear to me whether the stepper controller on the machine executes the g-code, or software on the PC. If the latter, how does it communicate with the VNC ? Is there a protocol description anywhere ?

I realise that these machines are commonly converted to use Mach3 etc. I'm not against this (though I have a preference for LinuxCNC) but I'm not sure what advantage it would add : the mill apparently has good positioning accuracy already.

Hi Adrian,

I'm in exactly the same situation as you - trying to get software / information on what commands the VMC 190 needs to run via its original 'brain' . I've tried sending G-code to it via a terminal program (realterm) but it never responds.

did you get anywhere with finding the original software for it?

Many thanks, Tom
