Could be interesting....although this was achived over 10
years ago, I was only wondering if anyone had any ideas on
the communications aspect of the ROV? is it being more widely
used these days?

'Market research carried out in early 1996 showed that there was
a potentially profitable market for a low cost Remote Operated
 Vehicle (ROV)

 (...)

The main breakthroughs were in the application of the ultrasonic
communications link for controlling the autonomous robot and its
ability to send data at a rate sufficient to send near real time
video from the ROV. This was tested in a number of filed trials
 around Hong Kong.'

The breakthrough was brought about by design of a robot that
could work in a hostile environment (under water filled pipes)
