Applications for 6D-SLAM

Hi,
there are many sensors and SLAM-algorithms that create 2D maps of the
environment. Stereo cameras, Range finders and titlable laser scanners
provide distance data for the complete 3d scene. I am searching for
applications and indoor environments where the 3d information is of
high importance so that 2D localisation is not enough.
Any ideas?

Alex

Re: Applications for 6D-SLAM
2D is _never_ enough in real environments: mobile robots with just 2D maps
would constantly drive into tables and other "hanging" objects as soon as
they would like to _do_ something more in the environment than just the
mapping itself. Try it out for yourself: how many of your daily indoor
activities can you do by just knowing a 2D floor map and nothing more?
