FS: Fujimi 1:350 Maruyu Yu-1 and Yu-1001 subs

The Imperial Japanese Army built a series of subs in late-1944 when the relations between the Army and Navy factions became so bad that the Army decided to torpedo the latter literally.

I jest! No, the IJA was not happy with resupply to the Philippines and other outlying areas and with Navy help managed to design a transport submarine for its needs. These were known commonly as the Maruyu type, officially as the Yu-1 and Yu-1001 type (the latter small improvements such as different propellor).

Fujimi has produced in 1:350 scale this rather small sub, and I have seen them sporadically on the shelves of some model shops, though not often.

I bought extra at the time they were available one each of the kits

400761 or Toku-14 (Yu-1) and 400778, or Toku-15 (Yu-1001). Price of either is 2400 JPY, somewhat lower than the retail price, and shipping is at cost.

If anyone is interested, please mail me (see header) or reply to this thread.

Thanks in advance,

For some reason I neglected to describe some details of the kits for those not immediately able to view the Fujimi (or some review) website:

Both kits allow one to build both a 1:350 and a 1:700 kit, that's two kits from one box. Well done Fujimi! Furthermore, a photo-etch fret is provide with some railings, propellors, and so on. And on top of that, the hull of the 1:350 kit can be chosen either from stadard gray plastic, or see-through, and on the photo-etch fret a cargo bay floor and some other details of the interior are provided. How is *that* for innovation?

Best regards, Gernot
