Lionel automatic Draw Bridge # 48043

Looking for a web site/book/somebody that has the wiring diagram.

The only 48043 I can find is a NYC Baldwin switcher.

It would help to know if this drawbridge for the new FasTrack or traditional tubular track?

If it's for tubular track, does it have 5 terminals for wire connections, or 3 terminals and a 7-wire cable to a control box?

If it has 5 terminals, are they on the base of a bridge operator's shack next to the draw span, or built into the base of the fixed section of base?

That sounds like a #313 Bascule Bridge. You may want to look for a picture of a #313 on line to be sure. If it is, it can be wired to the accessory output of your transformer, or using a seperate accessory transformer.

If they aren't already labeled on the base of the shack, working from left to right as you face the side of the shack where the terminals are, use a pencil to number them 1 - 5.

If you're using a ZW transformer, the terminal connections would be:

1 - (One wire) 'U' terminal on ZW

2 - (One wire) One side of control button

3 - (Two wires) Other side of control button & 'B' or 'C' accessory terminal on ZW Set accessory output you pick to roughly 14 volts

  1. (One wire) Track Power from the 'A' or 'D' terminal on the ZW being used to power the track loop the bridge is part of. May also be connected to the center rail contact of that loops lock-on instead.

  2. (One wire) connects to the special lock-on (only one wire connector) on the fixed part of the bridge track. If the special lock-on is missing a standard lock-on can be substituted. Use the center rail connection and ignore the outside rail connection.

An insulated pin should be used for the center rail four track sections away on each side of the bridge, something like this:

BLLL = Base/Lift Span

  • = Insulated center pin

They could also be curved track sections. The idea is to give your train space to safely stop when the draw span goes up. Also, the track section closest to the Lift Span should have pins facing the bridge, the end of the rails on the lift span are shaped to come down over them.

If you use a seperate accessory power supply it connects to terminals 1 & 3, and the button still connects between terminals

2 & 3. Terminals 4 & 5 still connect to track power as described for the ZW.

Once connected, press the button once and the bridge should raise up then cycle down. Power to the isolated track sections is cut when the bridge raises to prevent an "Adams Family Moment".

Oh, you may also want to lock conventional E-Units in forward when using the bridge to prevent cycling the direction when the bridge goes up. TMCC units will have to be restarted with the CAB-1.

These diagrams are for the later versions of the #313 that has 6 Fanstock clips on the bottom for the connections, not the earlier

5 thumb screw versions Mark described.
