After 1998, the colours mostly.
I didn't have problem with the rolling stock, just the hideous colours they were painted in. The exception was Royal Mail but they don't exist any more.

From a modelling point-of-view it's a vast improvement.

Why on earth would I want a model magazine that restricts itself to a single manufacturer?

Ah, Bit like when NWSE came along. Suddely the Southern area no longer had a monopoy on the colour green (Which I never liked anyway, More of a red or black man myself! Or Blue)
Sure the Blue, White Grey and red made quite an impact on the side of a Class 50.

I'm sure the 325 Royal Mail units are still running on the WCML in err Royal Mail colours.
Chris
It doesn't, see the other mailings in this thread.

I haven't seen any on the London-Birmingham line recently. Used to be really long trains behind Class 90's or something. Beautiful they were. As I used Royal Mail a lot for parcels I had a natural affinity with the colour scheme.

Better than today's corporate graffiti...
They are running daily to Glasgow. GBRf are operating the services up to 3 units (12 coaches) with an 87 last year due to problems with 325 units traction equipment.

London-Glasgow don't always use the Birmingham line. They often take the shortcut between Rugby and Stafford so we don't see them around here. It's what you could call the "East" WCML as opposed to the "West" WCML.

You did not say which part of the London - Birmingham route you lived on. By the sounds of it after Rugby.

Anyone caught sight of this mag' jet, if what are your impressions?
Yes, it's the bit between Coventry and Birmingham. The trains cross a low road bridge at very low speed which gives me a good look at them. They are mostly Voyagers and Pendolinos. The Freighliners use an alternate route between Coventry and Nuneaton.

A lot of beginners stuff in the first issue but I still found it an enjoyable read. Interesting prototype photos, including a train full of David Brown tractors from where my father used to work on their way to the Royal Show.
Whilst the beginner articles talk about 0 and N, there's an obvious 00 bias when you read the article about WR RTR models. The "free kit" is a Scalescenes production (I like them, but prefer to print them on matte paper, rather than glossy magazine stuff) but, again, only in
I will certainly buy the next few issues to see how it develops.

Pulled by Stanier 45079 with a roundel on the smokebox door?
It was featured in a BRM article on the David Brown railway in December
1998. I still have the issue.(kim)
Jerry asked :-
" Anyone caught sight of this mag' yet, if so what are your impressions ? "
Got it on the day of it's official release from W H Smith.
If the first edition is anything to go by it looks ideal for someone either just starting or returning back to model railways. Articles include where to site your layout and track types, show reports and club focus. Good layout but some of the photo's appear a little out of focus.
In this issue at least not nearly every other page has an advert !!!!! That may change unfortunately in future issues.
At =A33.35 for a 110 + page bimonthly mag' it's not bad value for money ( and I may have chance to read it fully before my son 'borrows it' to his collection ).
This issue you also get a 'free inside' goods store paper building kit.
