Don't know if they still have it, but there used to be an event called Oildorado around the Bakersfield and Taft, CA. area years ago. Welders would have souped up trucks, race to a point, drag leads out, etc. and make a weld and then race back to starting point. Don't know more than that about it as I never attended one of them.

But he could surely convince millions of people that classic welding is dead, repackage existing welding technologies with a pretty plastic case available in fruit colors, and then have those same millions do his welding FOR him. That man could sell mink coats to members of PETA and have them thank him for it afterwards.

There are welding competitons out there... kind of a welding rodeo, I guess. I believe that VICA holds various competitions around the USA every year. The girl in my TIG class working as an assistant has apparently ranked very highly in a few such competitions, though as it was suggested previously, weldors have JOBS. I think the majority of the people at the competitions are students who then go looking for jobs with the hope of their ranking in the competition providing some additional marketability.

When I had the guy out last week to fix my horses feet, I discovered that farriers have ??? - well I am not sure what they call them, but they all congregate, sort of like a field day, and then do stuff like 'make a horseshoe','make a knife', bend metal etc, and the best or quickest wins.

David - who thought you all might be just dying for that bit of useless info
