weld process's

could some one help. The previous company that I worked for (mech engineer ) had developed a weld procedure for ever thing we welded, 1018, 4140 etc. This was done by the on site weld engineer. I left the company after 15 yrs and did not take any thing with me. I wish I would have taken the weld processes. oh well. Now I am the only engineer for a company, I could write them my self but would have to do a lot of checking that I was doing it right. Does any one have this done that would share with me.

I think what you are referring to are weld procedures. The American Welding Society has prequalified procedures, however, they do charge for them. I am not aware of any unofficial sources. A lot depends on your company needs.

Welding procedures are written dependent upon the product you are making. Some industry codees and specifications have requirements that indicate a "Qualified" welding procedure be written and tested. Codes that contain nformation related to the qualification of procedures ar ASME Sec IX, AWS d1.1, AWS B.2, API 1104 etc.

Other sources such as Lincolns Procedure Handbook of Arc Welding can also be very useful.

If you are not producing a product that is built in accordance with a code or standard then any procedure for the material could be used but that would be a decision to be made by the person who designs or is responsible for the design of the product.

Hope this helps a little
