Welding Stainless Steel

Is it possible to weld 2 pieces of stainless together with any kind of flux core MIG wire? I have a Lincoln from Home Depot. This is for an emergency repair of the firepot for my corn stove.

Thanks in advance

Stainless welds best with Stainless wire and gas odds are if you hit it with fluxcore it WILL weld and be a giant hotspot for future corrosion or weakening due to the heat.

Although i am no expert and there are far better people here to answer it If youre looking for a "hold till spring to fix it right" it should work. but it WILL need to be fixed in spring

I'm also a bad one to ask because i have access to mig and tig setups. I would TIG it with stainless wire.

BUT Faces with the choice between a cold house and a temp repair with fluxcore to need a proper repair later

I'd do the fluxcore weld and keep an eye on it the rest of the winter. Or considering my primary heat is in the same family (Woodstove) I'd help anyone who needed a heat source repaired in the winter for them telling me thanks

Have it Tigged. If you don't have the time or money to fix it right, you won't have the time or money to do it a second time.
