OT: It's getting way to quiet around here. Let's stir it up a tad.

There were 39 combat related killings

in Iraq during the month of January.....

In the fair city of Detroit there were

35 murders in the month of January.

That's just one American city,

about as deadly as the entire war torn country of Iraq.

When some claim President Bush shouldn't

have started this war, state the following ...

FDR...

led us into World War II.

Germany never attacked us: Japan did.

From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost,

an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman...

finished that war and started one in Korea,

North Korea never attacked us.

From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost,

an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy...

started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.

Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson...

turned Vietnam into a quagmire.

From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost,

an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton...

went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent,

Bosnia never attacked us.

He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter

three times by Sudan and did nothing.

Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.

In the two years since terrorists attacked us

President Bush has ...

liberated two countries,

crushed the Taliban,

crippled al-Qaida,

put nuclear inspectors in Libya,

Iran and North Korea

without firing a shot,

and captured a terrorist who slaughtered

300,000 of his own people.

The Democrats are complaining

about how long the war is taking, but...

It took less time to take Iraq

than it took Janet Reno to take the

Branch Davidian compound.

That was a 51 day operation.

We've been looking for evidence of

chemical weapons in Iraq for less

time than it took Hillary Clinton to

find the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division

and the Marines to destroy the Medina

Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to

call the police after his Oldsmobile

sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took

to count the votes in Florida!!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB!

The Military moral is high!

The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.

Mike,

While I agree with the gist of your post, some of your history leaves much to be desired.

FDR's part in the start of WWII has been debated for years. Who knows? But yes, Japan did attack us first. And we declared war on them. But Germany soon declared war on us and began sinking our merchant ships sailing in the Atlantic. All too often in sight of our shores. If you don't regard that as attacking us, I don't know what is.

Truman did not lead us into Korea. North Korea attacked the South. In spite of the thousands of US Military stationed there as UN Peace Keepers. American Military were dying in South Korea before Truman even knew the fight was on. If you don't regard that as attacking us, I don't know what is.

Kennedy did not get us into Viet Nam. North Viet Nam (backing the Viet Cong) invaded South Viet Nam and pushed the French out. The South asked us for help. McCarthyism being what it was at the time, we wanted to stop the domino's from falling. So Ike sent the first advisors. JFK sent more advisors but was undecided whether to send combat troops or not. Advisors got killed in action even though they were, "Non-Combatants". Maybe they shouldn't have been there but, they were and they died at the hands of the VC and the NVA. If you don't regard that as attacking us, I don't know what is.

LBJ escalated with combat troops but controlled their actions at the squad level from the Oval Office. Hence the quagmire! Tricky Dick got re-elected with a secret plan to end the war. Kerry is spouting similar words now!

In the news today, Germany stated they were concerned about Iran's nuclear development! Maybe they can get the UN to sanction Iran and make it all better again!

Hmmm! More likely Germany will either call on us to do something or blame us for not doing anything!

Ah! So based on your hint, New York, L.A., Chicago, Tokyo and several other cities should have more murders! Is that it? Are you claiming that the number of murders is directly proportional to the population?

While the answer to your question may not be politically correct in is none the less fact. Try reading the URL a little closer: Hint:

I was wondering if that was where you were going with this. But I wanted you to say it. Based on that, I would think that Washington D.C. would have more murders. I would suspect they have greater numbers both total and in certain categories. And how would Watts compare?

However, these population numbers are for Detroit city proper which is a fraction in area to the Greater Detroit Metro area. What you will see on a road map and probably think of as Detroit (mainly because of the large letters spelling it out) is really the Metro Area. And it consists of many, many towns and cities and (last I heard) something around 5 plus million people. The whole area is usually referred to simply as Detroit unless there is a need to be more specific. And I would suspect too that the numbers of murders is for the entire Metro area and not just the city of Detroit itself.

But knowing Detroit as I do, it wouldn't surprise me if it were just for the city.

Yup, totally agree. Same factors (more/less) applied years ago (up to 1988) when I worked a homicide detective sgt. in a large NE US city.
