Is anyone else getting e-bombed with the bogus "Microsoft Security Patch".... In the last 24 hours I've received over 75 of these things...
To the uninitiated, be advised Microsoft will NEVER send an email with an attachment..
Cheers,
Bill

Yes, about the same number of e-mails, all with the same type of message. Norton is picking some of them off, but not all. Some don't have Microsoft in the title, but are "security" or "administrator" type titles.

Not to the same extent as you, perhaps 10 or 12 in 24 hours. They do look authentic, but like you, I was suspicious, NEVER had an attachment from MS before.
It's a new virus, it seems to be doing an excellent job of clogging mailboxes. Probably going to get some massive media coverage.
Yes I am getting bombed with the same virus and message, I sent a note to my anti-virus provider asking if there was a possibility tha the anti virus program was not getting it out of my machine although it reports that it is deleting them.
Its not new. It makes the rounds every few months with a slightly different subject or message attached.
I got one yesterday from a bogus PayPal site wanting me to enter all my info for "verification". It came from an ISP in Korea.
same here...dozens in the last two days...
and Norton has MISSED every one of them...
beware!

Damn, I feel neglected.

You bet - I came in this am with 240 emails, of which 200 or so were these. Since deleting those I have received nearly 50 this morning.

My business mail box got flooded with over 200 of them last night. I have put a temp hold on all mail going into that box, so there are a lot of bounced emails going somewhere.
Jim
Me too!
I have received over 400 in the last 24 hours as well. It seems that homeland security takes these seriously. My ISP is working with governmental agencies to trace them to the source.
Inform your ISP of the problem. Intentionally sending virus messages apparently can result in serious jail time at club Fed.
Some are saying that Norton "missed" the Microsoft thing. Were any of these systems infected or did they just receive the email? Norton will not stop you from receiving emails unless you have the particulars set up. What it WILL do is prevent the attachments from executing.
I keep getting emails from my postmaster telling me that I have been receiving emails with the harmful alleged Microsoft attachment. It doesn't pass them on, but it keeps pestering me. I wish it would just delete them and stop telling me about it.

Some were outright infected with a virus and Norton deleted them. Others contain attachments. Norton picks up the ones with a virus and the others were simply deleted when the title or author was seen. I never gave Norton the chance to try the enclosures. I am sure it would have picked them up as well.
Hi
If you have received any spam from
Don't worry, they'll get around to you! I have just started receiving them.
5 in the last couple hours.I opened one on a secure machine and Norton quarantined it immediately. I have a computer that is not connected to anything and has nothing on it I would be heartbroken to lose.
My ISP told me that the bounced emails are not coming from the supposedly infected machine. It is complicated but some other machine is sending out the emails and using your email as the return address. I have had them trickling in over the last couple of weeks.
So do I.
I wonder how many have tried to get to ' snipped-for-privacy@b.c' and bounced...
