OT: < SNOW!! > :TO

It was a 3' drift not 3' across. thought it was atleast 1' across the rest of the roof . It has dwindled to nothing. We had atleast 18" on the ground. It was nice and cold when we were getting it all though so it was nice and fluffy (which means it wasn't quite as heavy) So I prayed for a nice warmup or something since I couldn't get up there before it got warm and made it all heavy. God came through and Now I have a just about cleared roof. After 2 weeks of 38° weather we are just getting to 4" on the ground.

I'm with you on the Pole Shift theory. The shift occurred when American manufacturing went to China.

Errh... I try to be and I tried it on Mark M but he didn't bite. 8^)

But seriously, nice looking home! Reminds me when I visted Kentucky with my girlfriend (later wife) and we (or I) seriously considered bying a couple of homes (similar to what yours looks like) because they were so inexpensive (very well made) compared to calif homes/property.

And for you SoCal people who have not come up or are considering coming up to ski... one of the best days and conditions I've skied! 8^)

I think it's the butterfly effect created from the airline business. BTW, if anyone has seen the movie, it's pretty kewl with a very good message.

Hey Paul,

I'm scheduled for a 3 day hike in the hills close to you (March 12-14) We're camping at Baboon lakes just up from Lake Sabrina. My neighbor planned the trip quite a while back (before the heavy snow). We all have snow shoes and cold weather equipment but I'm concerned more about the trail conditions. This hike will come the week after I run the L.A. Marathon (March 7) and I'm worried that if it's deep powder, I'm not gonna have the energy to lug my sorry as up the hill. Do you know the area? If so, how's the snow there?

Thanks,

Hey Malcolm,

At 9-11K', I would guess that there is 7-15' of snow in that area.

I've been to Sabrina Lake a few times (just kicking around with people who do not hike) and have not hiked to Baboon Lakes or the Thompson Ridge so I do not know the trail there. And, I do not know how often that trail is used in winter? Of course, it will most likely be covered unless visual clues from other groups recently are there or we get another storm (which is very possible) which will cover it all. Looks to be a ~3 hour snowshoe? Anyhow, the latest snowfall should firm up quite a lot by then if nothing or little falls by the 12-14th.

Looking at the topo and some of the earlier trail,...

goes up fast from Sabrina to Blue Lake, then it seems fairly level to Baboon. And, as you may know, and per the map, it's a sun protected area (glaciers, high ridges) so, there is a good chance there is good snow pack there.

Otherwise, I'd suggest calling one of the local mountaineering shops?

Wow! Thanks for the links. No matter how sore I am from the marathon, I've got to get up there!

Thanks again,

Yes! Loved the pictures. Even better than Sporkman's snow.
