bearing preload question

The way bmw does it on their bikes is to create a bearing stack with the ID spacer and OD spacer, and the bearings. It's all held together by the axle which clamps the stack up.

This is then basically a heat-shrink fit in side the aluminum hub, but because the stack is steel everywhere, there are no thermal issues that alter the preload/clearance value.
