disk type

I've been watching a show called "American Choppers" on the Discovery channel. On many occasions I watched them cut some fairly intricate curves using a 4.5" grinder with what I'm guessing isn't a regular grinding disk. Does anyone know what type of disk that is. I'm guessing it is a thinner disk. I realize skill plays a big part here but I can't believe he's making some of those cuts with a thick traditional grinding disk.

Yea, one can get cutting disks for those toys, although I do wince slightly at the casual way they put their face close to the things when using them.

Hopefully the concept of protection will be the ONLY thing to penetrate their heads. Here is at least ONE source for them, although I suspect they are a pretty common thing:

Hey SGF,

I believe from your description ( I never saw the TV show) that these would be ZIP disks, or ROTO-ZIP discs cut off blades. Cut like crazy, but lose diameter fairly quick. Should be available at any good hardware, industrial, welding, or auto supply shops, plus.

A Google will also bring up a Rotzip cutter, that is more like a drill bit, but have a peek at:

Take care.
