Minimum Lathe Speed

I am a beginner planning a first purchase of a lathe. Many lathes aimed at this market seem to have a minimum speed of over 100 rpm. I have heard that

40 rpm is recommended for some processes. (e.g. screw cutting). What would people recommend.

If a Myford is large enough for the work you contemplate then buy one with the confidence that many, many model engineers have such machines and produce outstanding work with them and they have not changed their lower speed ratios for as long as I can remember.

No association with Myford ,chose another make with similar speed ranges if you prefer. Alan

OOPs, Didn't see your posting before advertising my Lathe for sale! I'm selling a small-to-medium sized lathe with backgear (for screwcutting) and Variable speed control. See the posting above for full spec.
