Evolution ER-1

Hi,

I've read some of the recent posts about this robot; I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who's bought one, and found a useful task for it to perform? Is it automonous enough to be useful?

I'm currently thinking about one to follow my Mum around at home and perform simple retrieval tasks on voice commands. But the primary use would really be as a remote-controlled webcam via the internet, for security use.

Has anyone heard any more about when they might be discontinued?

The ER-1 is really a base to show off Evolution's vision software. It's a great product for that.

The ER-1 could be used as a remote Webcam, assuming you dedicate a laptop to it, and a wireless NIC. Seems like overkill, though.

Ask this question on the San Diego robot group Yahoo mail list:

The group bought one for shared use, and several members have their own. It's generally well liked by its owners (especially if you upgrade its camera), and for the selling price now of $300, it's a pretty good deal.
