running on compressed air - timing changes?

Just out of interest, when folk run stationary steam engines on compressed air, do they normally make changes to the valve timing? I believe that normally inlet and exhaust valves are closed a little early to take advantage of the properties of steam expansion - and presumably optimal conditions are a little different when running on compressed air?

Random question of the day :-)

cheers
