Fastest rate to charge a pack

Out of curiosity was is the fastest rate you can charge a Zagi battery pack without doing damage? I have two packs, one is a 1400mah and the other is a

1700mah. Normally I charge them at 1.5amps but that takes a long time. Today I got frustrated, and a little daring so I charged my 1400mah pack at
5amps. According to the charger (Astro 110D) it put in 1517mah, and the battery was a little warm to the touch at the end. I thought it would be super hot, but it wasn't. I was wondering if it would be OK to fast charge it at 5amps, and then top it off at 1amp. Or is this going to shorten the life of the pack?

I charge Nicads at around 5C. I.e a 12 minute charge has em peaked and hot - literally - about 50C. Its not recommended but modern low resistance cells seem to take it for quite a while. According to that formula, 8.5A is doable on a 1700 pack...:) and 7A on the 1400.

The 'normal' rate for Nicd fast charge is 3C I believe - a 20 minute charge - which equates to 4.2A on the 1400 cells and 5.1A on the 1700 pak.

I assume these are Nicads - if NiMh, all bets are off and I would thibk they would be rapidly ruined at that rate.

NiMh's are a different story- 1C rate is max I believe.

In view of the terrible tragedy with the guy whose parachute was sabotaged your is the sickest sig I have seen for a long time - please consider changing it - it just isn't funny at the moment.

The Astro 112D will do a bit more than 8 amps.
