Runway.Plastic Mat/ Glue??

We've just ordered eight rolls of the plastic mat for our runway in our new location. We've used this stuff at our old location for the past three years and altho not as good as asphalt or cement it did the job quiet well.

Questions is: Naturally it's stapled to the ground with the large (8 inch legs) staples. We've heard here and there that there is a glue you can glue seams together instead of using the staples in the middle of the runway.

1.Does anyone know what the exact name of the glue is and where to get it?? 2.Naturally the first question is.Does it work?? How well does it work?? 3.Does it work thru time?? Thru different weather conditions?? It get's hot here in SE Texas,so wondering if it will hold up?? 4.How did yall apply it??

Thanx for any help Walt

Have you checked with the people you bought the mat from?

Walt,

Can you tell me more about this plastic runway mat that your club is using? What is it exactly, where do you get it, and how much does it cost?

My club is presently in the process of obtaining a new flying site and we would be interested in an alternative material for a runway, especially with the current cost of asphalt and concrete.

Thanks, Doug

Enter 'petromat' into your search engine and have at it.

Doug: Petromat is just one of the names for this stuff. It's actually woven plastic mat. It's put down to the ground with staples.Large ones with eight inch legs. We had it for three years at our other field with no problems. The only problem we had was washout underneath. The base on the ground is the biggie. It's amazing once you put it down how much the sun wil shrink it.Very tight. I guess the price is different everywhere but where we got ours here in town it's $315 for a roll 18 ft wide and 308 ft long. email me if you have any more questions.Be glad to help. Thanx Walt
