when i bought my saito 62 just the other day i asked there engine man what was a good climb prop for it. i didnt tell him it was going on a trainer, just that i wanted a good climb prop. he told me to put a
13X4 or a 13X5. i hung a 13X5 on it cues he didnt have any X4's.well, im going to build my trainer as a tail dragger and want to put a
3 blade prop on it. so, i drop a inch and stay at the same pitch. 12X5. right?my question is, is that enough prop for that engine? what kinda RPM's should i be looking for static? i dont have a tach, but i will before the next time i run it.
all of this is going on a eagle 2, i am not looking for speed, i want good climb performance to get me out of trouble if need be. heres another, if i wanted to drop 2 inches, 11X- what? would that give too much pitch and make it too fast for the eagle? i can (i think) keep my foot out of it if need be. if i can fly around at half throttle or little less then ill be happy.
once again im not looking for speed, just a good 3 blade prop to give lots of ground clarence.
ok, now what about WIDE blade props. (still all 3 blade'er's) how does that effect the pitch vs dia. how do they look? good, bad? how would it look on the eagle.
i know a lot of it is trying different things, see what works best, and making changes, but i want a good informed ideal before i start buying a buncha props.
lets recap, static RPM's for a saito 62, drop 2 inches on a 3 blade, going to a wide 3 blade, and not going so fast as to have a flutter induced wing failure.
