Automotive circuit tracing

Sometimes my vehicle and others devlop electrical faults, normally cured by changing fuse / component, however i have heard that sometimes you need to 'trace' faults with a multmeter.

This is okay but how does one go about tracing the fault?? i know that a circuit has to be closed to work but how can you trace the fault to a single broken wire or connector?? in a loom it is hards to check visually for corrsion as many parts of loom are hidden what setting do i have to use on mutimeter?? do i need a more able tool sometimes?? the car in question is not fuel injected

At the moment the electrics all work fine, however i wish to be prepared for the future!!

Any help is appricated

thanks dave

First move is to buy the service manual and read and study it from cover to cover.

Buy a Hanes guide. It can be tedious tracing automotive wiring with a meter. J
