Best Def'n of a Slinky?

  1. Deflections of a Slinky supporting it's own weight average out to be an order of magnitude higher than the unstressed length.

  1. The weight of the spring is high enough relative to the spring constant that deflections about those of the length of the unstressed spring take place over about 5 spirals.
