can ANSYS create the fillet region between two curved surfaces?

Dear all,

I am creating a solid model of a centrifugal compressor impeller. I have one tough question - how I can create the fillet region between the airfoil root and the hub. As you know, the airfoil face is usually a cuved surface, and hub face is a curved face too, and the airfoil has been welded together with the hub. What is more, from the inlet to the outlet, the fillet radius varies.

If we research this issue from a simple case, then we can considering adding a fillet volume in the intersection of two solid cylinders. Does anybody have experience in this field. I would greaatly appreciate if you can share.

If you are talking about the solid modeller in prep7 then I don't think you can do it in an elegant way. Best advice is to use ANSYS Design Modeller or a CAD package and import the filleted geometry into ANSYS. If you must do it in ANSYS then one approach is to the two intersecting areas into a number of strips with the working plane. The lines at the edges of these strips can then be line filleted. I have done this several times but it is messy and time consuming.

ANSYS doesn't do complicated modelling very well in my opinion. If I had the opportunity I would (and have done in the past with ANSYS) do all the modelling in either IDEAS or SolidWorks then import it to ANSYS as an IGES.

Can you estimate this variable fillet with a series of cylindrical sections? ANSYS is going to mesh it anyway, so you're not necessarily losing geometric detail. Can you use spirals?
