pre-stressed truss element

I am trying to model a simple pre-stressed truss element (T3D2) in ABAQUS. I have divided the analysis into 2 steps. The first applies the stress using the *CLOAD command and the second step applies a further load to the truss. However, when i view the results, there does not seem to be any type of force/stress in the truss in the first step- almost as if the
