HF bandsaw

Anyone ever successfully aligned the blade guides on this peice of shi*?

The roller guides have tapered shanks and the first thing that happens (to me anyway) is that the blade is pulled into the inside roller thereby destroying the set in the teeth??? used one blade in two years, then had to change it and I've been through two blades in the last week. GRRRR!

You can also join a forum on these saws at

It's free to join and there's a lot of expertise in this forum.

I've got a similar saw and I knew when I bought it that it would need tweaking (and it did). I went further by building a new stand for it and removed the original downfeed tension spring and installed a hydraulic ram with a flow through control valve. The cylinder was from The Surplus Center and can be found at

and the control valve (I believe) was

I used 18" hydraulic hose to connect. This setup allows the blade to be raised without much effort without changing the adjustment of the control valve. I also drilled out the rod of the cylinder and added a couple of heavy springs and a knob to allow the blade pressure to be adjusted. I use a blade wax lubricant rather than a liquid coolant although when I made the pan for the stand I did put in a drain for a pump.

I have to say I'm very happy with my saw. I replaced the original carbon blade with a bimetal blade before I even used the saw and cleaned out the gearbox and replaced the sludge with a 90wt gear oil.

I know this is more than you wanted to know. I started off to tell you about the forum, and got carried away....

No Problem here Dave, I think I read your improvements page in a link from the other page I visited, I have to get this old brain in "understand mode" these days. I intend to make a coolant tank for mine as well and a better stand, I have the angle cutting style. Thanks again... granpaw

Your post got me off my butt and I took pictures of my saw and posted them on them on the Yahoo forum in the picture section under the file "Dave Young". I also posted in the messages some of the stuff I'd done....

I hope you yahoos realize that by signing up with them you get spam. I won't ever go try to look at a yahoo group for this reason. Why don't you put stuff in the binaries and post to the newsgroups or else just be quiet?

HUH?... I don't know how to adjust bandsaw blades 'yet', but I 'do' know I got a lot of good information from that yahoo group.. On the other hand I aready knew how to use filters and delete spam in my mailbox...I suggest 'you' learn also, your missing a lot of good information, FWIW

Depending on keeping your email address secret is futile as a defense against spam.

Good point. When you try to filter out the spam coming through YahooGroups, you also wind up blocking the mailing list part, if you succeed.

Just don't post binaaries directly to the newsgroup. That is against the guidelines.

And for *this* newsgroup, the most common choice is to put the images in the dropbox , and then post to the newsgroup the name under which the images have been saved, and remember to post the URL of the dropbox (as above) for those who do not yet have it memorized.

Enjoy, DoN.
