Question on mounting a grinding wheel

Oh wizards of grinding,

For mounting a new cup on a small T&C grinder, should I put blotter/cardboard disks on both sides (end and inside)? Seems logical. There were none on the old one but that doesn't mean it was right.

This is a little thing - 40mm OD cup with a 9mm hole for the shaft - that turns fast. Will stay off to the side at first power-on.

It's good policy to use a blotter in almost all instances. It compensates for minor irregularities, preventing the mounting device from cracking the wheel. One exception is in mounting counterbored miniature wheels for internal grinding. In that case, it's not uncommon to use one only on the back side of the wheel.

A wheel that small should be run quite fast------in the neighborhood of

14,500 RPM in order for it to perform to specs. Smart man----do stand to the side. Even small wheels can hurt you if they explode.

Always!
