The telescope people often use Formica for bearing surfaces. The favorite choice was Ebony Star said to have the best sliding surface. If you are going to use some Formica, it would be worth searching to see what they currently suggest. Ebony Star is no longer manufactured.

Used to be some stuff in a metal push tube called Door-Ez, worked for drawers, too. Check the hardware store. Otherwise, get some beeswax.
