Venus Probe Kitbash Ideas?

I just broke down and bought a case of 6 V-Probes on ebay. At less than $22 including shipping, I couldn't resist. I've read a little about the V-Probe's shaky flight characterisitics, but I'm more interested in kit bash ideas. Seems like the alien lander might be made into a Mars-lander type vehicle. Anyone have any others?

My daughter (Stephanie age 7) and I built ours stock - EXCEPT - we replaced the BT-20 tube with BT-50 and "peeled" the inside of the two centering rings to accommodate the BT-50.

This simple change allows the use of 24mm "D" motors instead of the recommended C6 motor. I think Sport Rocketry had an article on this mod a while back.

We flew it for the first time yesterday in a smallish 600' ft sq. field. It was a "picture perfect" flight. It went up straight as an arrow to about

500' feet on a D12-3. Both Alien pod and booster were recovered un-damaged within about 100' ft. of the pad using the stock chutes. (The wind was light to none)

I would recommend building one of your kits like this because Venus Probe is a "really neato" rocket (my daughters description) once you give it enough power. The finished rocket weight exceeds the recommended C6 engine maximum lift-off weight.

I'm sure you can come up with lots of other mods. The pod does have a shape somewhat like a small mars lander (only three legs)

Have fun.

The single best thing you can do with it (IMO) is modify it to take a D12.

A friend of mine did the same thing. Do what we are doing. Distribute them to club members and drag race them on F's
