A quick guide to updating your U1 without the headaches I hit

Been running V2.1.0 on my U1 for a few days now and thought I'd share how I'd do the update if I started over. First thing: grab the file once, then check its size against what the wiki lists before you even touch the machine. My first download was cut short and the printer threw an odd error when I tried flashing from USB. A corrupted file just won't install cleanly, so verify before you insert the stick. And once the update starts, leave it alone. Don't close the app or Orca mid-flash, that's how you end up stuck at zero percent watching nothing happen.

Two things I actualy like in this version. The speed presets on the printer now line up with what Orca and the app show, so no more guessing wich slider on the touchscreen matches the profile on my laptop. Small thing, saves real confusion.

Also nice for anyone doing color work, the G-code details page finally previews the filament colors from the sliced file, so you can eyeball a rainbow print before committing four hours to it. Spanish and Turkish are in the language menu now too if that matters for your household. Took me about ten minutes end to end once the file was good.

I did the update on mine last weekend and had a similar hiccup, though mine was the opposite problem. The download went fine but my old USB stick, some 8GB thing I keep in a drawer, was formatted as exFAT and the machine just sat there doing nothing when I plugged it in. Reformatted a smaller stick to FAT32 and it picked it right up. So if anyone's stick gets ignored at boot, check the format before assuming the file is bad.

The color preview is the part I use most. I run a lot of two tone stuff for my daughter's school projects and previously I'd slice, send it, and just hope the swap looked right. Now I can see the layout on the printer screen and caught one job where the colors landed on the wrong bodies of the model. Saved me a reprint right there. Can't say I've noticed much difference in print quality itself, which I didn't expect anyway. Benchy came out the same as always. The matched speed labels between the screen and Orca did clear up something that bugged me for weeks, I kept setting one thing on the printer and wondering why the slicer numbers looked diffrent mid print.

Mine took closer to fifteen minutes total, probaly because I restarted once after the FAT32 issue. Still way less painful than I expected from a firmware night.

I skipped the USB route entirely on mine and did the update thru the settings menu over wifi. Took closer to twenty minutes than ten but no stick to reformat, which suited me since the only drive I own is a 64GB thing that's never been FAT32. The color preview allready earned its keep on a two color sign I'd been putting off, spotted where the purge tower was going to land before wasting half a spool on gray. One thing I'm still poking at, does the speed label sync work the other way too, like if I change it on the printer mid print does Orca pick it up?

Same experience with the speed labels as the first reply, I was forever tapping silent mode on the screen and then wondering why the numbers in Orca looked nothing like what the printer said it was doing. Never thougt much of it until this update made them match up. Timing wise mine landed between the two of you, call it twelve minutes, and I went the wifi route through the settings menu since my only stick is a micro sd in an adapter the U1 never seemed to want to read anyway.
