Hornby Pullman Cars

I have just bought two new Pullmans ( non illuminated type) with the fine wheels. They immediately began to derail ! Close inspection at each problem position revealed some kind of track or point deformity. This route had, until then, provided a good easy running full speed HST line. Is this a general experience? Am I to suffer the same thing with each new acquisition?

Not if you fix the track. Keith

Excellent advice, but in the meantime check the back2back. New hornby often have wheels bit close so can be less forgiving of dodgy track. Cheers, Simon

I have not been ignoring the replies! This post has only just got through my usenet!

Evidently I fixed the track as I infered in my post but still there was an evident blip at each point. On measuring I found that the new b-b -inside flange face distance was 13.9mm and lo! so was the check rail spacing at the frog of all my Peco points. The next question is: can the wheels be easily moved and how are bodies opened up to insert ballast?

Exactly which Pullmans have you got Peter? I can't see why you wouldn't be able to fit the latest metal Hornby coach wheels to them - the back-to-back on these can be adjusted if necessary using an appropriate gauge.

Hi John, I have examples of the three types. The latest being the last issue (made in China) but without lighting. Peter
