Brushless Sky Cat

Hi,

I was thinking of getting into the brushless age by getting the Multiplex Sky Cat and an Axi 2820/10 brushless motor with a Model Sports 4012-3 controller. I thought I would try it with 8 Sanyo 2400 RC cells. Does anyone have any experience with this or a similar setup (weight should be approx

1.5 kg and wingspan is 1.1 m) ? From what I reckon, it seems like a decent combination (the Sky Cat comes supplied with a 600 can motor, and the IC recommendation is .20).

Any ideas on what servos to use ? I've read recommendations of Multiplex Nano-S (0,13 s/60deg, 8 g, 11Ncm) or MS-X3 (0,12s/60deg, 13 g, 15,7 Ncm). Are these powerful enough for this aircraft ? I would have imagined it would have called for something more powerful. Perhaps Simprop SES 190BB (0,135s/60deg, 14 g, 19 Ncm) is a viable option (?).

Are there any good alternatives to the Sky Cat, preferrably ARF ? I want to practice aerobatics on a grass field near my house.

Apparently its fantastic, but some airframe strengthening is recommended.

Zillions. RipMax Alliance springs to mind instantly. Also any 3D type plane from mountain models. Some are more RTF than others...

Hi Walkman:

I've never heard of the Sky Cat, but here's what I fly with that motor:

GeeBee Z

48" Wingspan 408 square inches Whopping four pounds, ready to fly! AXI 2820-10 brushless motor Jeti Avance 40-3P controller, I think 10-Cell 2600 mAh NiMH battery.

I use a Graupner 11x6 Nylong prop with this. I also used an APC 11x6, but it didn't seem to have the same bite.

By the way, I used Hitec HS55 servos to drive this - they looked a little small at first, but they worked just fine.

Dan.
