disturbance on channel 51

I have a Alpha 21 glider (only 2 servo's) with electro motor speed 600. I used it frequently with my own transmitter on channel 42 (40 Mhz) without problems. I replaced the christal with a channel 51 one in order to fly with my son's transmitter (royal EVO 9). The plane has now disturbances and goes out of control for 3 or even 4 seconds. After an emergency landing, I replaced the christal with another one (also channel 51). This doesn't make any difference.

Any idea ??

Thanks

What kind of receiver? It sounds like the EVO isn't talking to the receiver very well! Is ch 51 a known problem frequency in your area?

Here in the U.S., they suggest we don't go more than two or three channels away from the receiver's original channel without sending the receiver back to be retuned. There are several components in the receiver besides the crystal that determine the exact frequency it picks up. An out-of-tune receiver can cause the problems you've described. Also, this may make the receiver more susceptible to radio interferance from the motor/ESC.

Receiver is a multiplex standard receiver 5-7 channel(no IPD). The channel 51 is not a known problem in our club. I think I can exclude the transmitter problem because I tested it also with an older multiplex transmitter (4 channel - no computer - channel 51) and it delivered the same problems. The EVO has been used for flying other planes without disturbance. I wonder that the problem occurs on channel 51 and not on channel 42 with the same plane, the same motor, the same speed controller and the same receiver. The problem occurs when the motor is running as well as in the gliding phase. Probably the receiver is out-of-tune. I will replace the receiver with another one (IPD) in the glider and do the tests again. This can take a few days because we currently have very bad weather and a bad forecast for the next days here in Belgium.

Bunk! Most brands of receivers sold in the USA are purchased without a crystal installed. One selects the crystal of choice. Futaba does restrict interchageability to only half of the 72 MHz band, but it doesn't restrict crystal choice on any other band. Perhaps you are thinking about transmitter crystals? In the USA, changing them without retuning is actually illegal. However, like you say, two or three channels is probably safe.

We had many hits on channel 50, so did away with it...Numerous hits and one "hole in a new roof.....

Channels 50,51,52 are used for babyphones and other remote control devices such as remote power plugs.

The frequencies match exacly channels 50,51,52.

Google for

babyphones+40 Mhz. and compare the exact frequency of your x-tall..

You;ll be amazed...

This is really amazing. Thanks for this info. We will check out the area around the field with a scanner.

Will try to explain, those are devices to switch on lamps etc. they work on 40 Mhz too. also in the 50 to 52 channel range.

You can put such device between your lamp ( or other thing you want to switch remotely) and power mains.

They look like a timer, but are not time controlled, but with a remote control, similar to the tv ones.

Thanks for the info. Interesting and educational. I even know of a few applications.

It seems that your opinion (Flying Tiger) points to the right direction. We went to another location (slope) and everything goes fine. Back on our club air field I replaced the receiver with another one (Same type): the disturbances are still there. Finally I replaced the transmitters christal with another one (channel 51) without any result. During next week we will test on channel 49.

Would you be so kind and post the result off the scanner? And don;t forget not only use scanner on the field but drive around the field in 1 km range to pinpoint disturbances.

When your plane is up in the sky, the receiver may take that signals, which cannot be heared at the field itself.

Look for buildings etc...places where people are.

Yesteray we used a scanner to check for hits on channel 51. No hits could be triggered on the field, neither around the field. A 2 km range around the field has been tested, but no signals have been picked up. Although, the scanner produced some noise (0,5 sec to max 3 sec periods). I'm not an expert, but the owner of the scanner said me that this noise is not a signal that can cause the disturbance. The plane still goes out of control for short time periods on channel 51. I switched now to channel 43 (40595 Mhz). Problems are solved.

Perhaps one of your 51 crystals had a problem.

I replaced the receiver cristal with 3 different ones (all channel 51). I did the same in another receiver of the same type. I also replaced the transmitter's cristal with another one.
