Missing engine chrome going to be a problem?

Sorry if this double-posts, but I've been having problems getting messages to post to Google.

I just got a beat-up .19 for my trainer, and it's been used hard, but the price was right.

One of the most glaring problems is that the chrome is almost completely missing from the head -- is this going to be a problem? I assume the head was chromed originally as a protective measure. Should I strip the head and bake some engine paint on it?

On the outside of the head? It was only chromed for looks. Don't worry about it.

Under no circumstances would I run that engine. I once had a motorcycle that had lost some chrome from the front wheel, every time I rode it, my left big toe would catch fire.........

Most shiny engines ware not chromed but simply walnut blasted to present a highly polished "chromed" finish. This polished finish is easily restored with a soft cloth, lots of elbow grease and a little of the aluminium polishing compound used by motorcyclists to restore the polish on their gearboxes etc. regards Alan T. If it runs fine, dont sweat it. Chrome on the outside of the engine is for pretty not for engine operation.
