Possible interference??

I like to float fly my NexStar and I'm always looking for possible ponds to fly from. I've come across a good spot, but there are power lines nearby. They are not close enough to fly into, but I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the lines could affect reception. The lines are about 1/2 km away from the pond. Is this too close to fly without affecting reception??

Thanks

It is very ulikely that those lines will have any affect on your plane. Many flying sites are within 1/2 mile of power lines and other structures with no ill effects.

reception??

I used to fly on public land in Utah that was bordered by high tension power lines with no problems. Just don't fly through them!! You probably won't get interference but your plane may get hung up. Don't ask me how I know. :)

However on shortwave, any metallic objcets can set up standing waves - if you have ever driven near powerlines while listening to broadcast radio you will know there is teh odd spot where the signal is simply absent.

Fortunately the spots are small, and flown across quickly, and are seldom noticed unless you have a glitch counter.

But be prepared for the occasional delayed response.

Hello,

The guys that fly floats around here have power hi-tension lines about the same distance away and they don't seem to be bothered by them.

The only problem I've ever seen was a fellow streaming his antenna on the outside of the fuse, but he had metal push rods he built inside the fuse in the same area and got a signal feedback(?) problem. He tacked the antenna to the top of the rudder and everything went "ducky"

Good luck.

Jim,

You forgot that some receivers will lock out and not jiggle the servos unless there is a proper signal being received. Others will jiggle even if

100 miles from the nearest power line.
