Anyone who has watched a parametric model turn into a deeply nested tangle of features knows the pain of tracing what depends on what. Nxt is an addon for FreeCAD that tackles exactly that, and the maker has now shipped a major update with new Fillet and Chamfer tools on top. Getting it is easy too, since the addon is available through FreeCAD's add-on manager.
The centrepiece is a rebuilt Tree View. It can draw visual references between objects, with relationships shown in different ways, including curved dependency lines, and a detail strip opens for quick information. A history slider rolls back and forward through feature history, and double-clicking a reference jumps straight into editing the sketch or feature behind it. Quick settings let users customize the tree, and Overlay Mode gives a floating version. Errors get special attention: failing sketch constraints and operations are highlighted in red and orange, sketch profile detection and missing coincident correction are built in, and a persistent Section View can slice through models with intuitive controls.
The Fillet and Chamfer tools are the boldest part of the update. They use interactive viewport drag handles with dimension fields, and the maker skipped OCCT's chamfer and fillet API entirely rather than wait for upstream improvements. Reassuringly, files made with the addon still load and work in stock FreeCAD, though without it those fillet and chamfer models stay visible but cannot be recomputed or edited. That seems a fair trade for the workflow gained.
One open question is how the new tools compare to stock FreeCAD on complex geometry, which has not been shown yet. The maker also notes the approach has some drawbacks and hopes users will try the tree and provide feedback. It should run on FreeCAD 1.1.4 or newer, with bug reports handled on GitHub.
