Steel is common...Fiberglass and PVC etc are used in corrosive environments... the steel is of course conductive and provides a grounding path in the event of insulation failure...conductance otherwise is not a liability..

be sure to run all two or three lines in the same conduit though if you use metal...running just one line a metal conduit creates a transformer and will produce current flow in the conduit... you wont have that with non metalic wire ways.
