HarborFreight VOM's

Finally received the order of Cen-Tech VOM's. For $2.99 these are nice, solid, bright back light, great size and accurate so far compared to my BK meter. Now how long they last is another question. I was surprised by the overall quality for the price. Anyone has any thoughts of how these can be mfg so cheaply?

I bought ten of these and will use them for gifts!

Hey! The Harbor Freight in Albuquerque has those for $9.99. What gives! I think I'll complain to the management.

I might consider spending $3 for something I would expect to fail within 1 year (a total 'guess'), but $10 -- I have to give it a second thought.

Say Jim: Glad you picked up on it., i didn't keep any of mine (gifts also) but they looked very fine., The Prices fluctuate through-out the year with Harbor Freight you've got to keep watching carefully for the real special discounts.I get flyers and seasonal catalogs from them all the time.

These meters are definitely worth the price - which includes the meter, leads and the 9V battery. It's a kick around meter that you use for general purposes where if it gets dropped or damaged or whatever you don't lose much. It won't replace your Fluke - but is fine for most simple AC or DC voltage measurements, DC current and resistance. It even includes a transistor hfe measurement, which worked ok on the few transistors I tried with it. The only "failure" I've seen with it was an erroneous (too high) DC voltage reading when measuring a ~12 volt DC level that had large amplitude pulses superimposed.

When you order, you have to specify the complete part number, or you get the 10 dollar price. There are some characters after the first 5 (92020-xxxx) that get you the sale price. Once you order from them, they will send you flyers in snail mail which include some of the sale items. I may still have one, and if so, I'll post the full number for the meter.

Here's how to order the $2.99 meter via the web:

1)
formatting link
enter 90899-1rgh in the Find Item Number: box 3) click Go 4) It brings up the meter with the WRONG number Do NOT Add to Basket from this page 5) Scroll down, looking in the left hand column for Order from Printed Catalog 6) Click on Order from Printed Catalog 7) That brings up a new window - enter the item number 90899-1RGH

I haven't ordered by phone (1-800-423-2567) so I don't know what info they would require, but the part number above is one page 1 in the winter/spring 2005 catalog #751.

Great! Thanks. I couldn't figure out how to get their freebies from their e-mailings though.
