Measuring the flow rate

i need to measuring the flow rate in a water pipe with 640mm of diameter and the velocity is 3 m3/s. I was thinking to use the Pitot metod to measuring the flow rate. I can use the ultrasonic but i don't know anything about it. And i'll use Atmega8 to pick the information from the sensors and display then in a LCD. Someone could help me or give me some tip about this.

Thanks.

There are various factors... accuracy, durability and cost.

If you need high accuracy then you will have a different set of issues than if you do not. Same with durability and cost.

and many of those use different methods.

Physics issues are turbulent or non turbulent flow or is a mix (velocity dependent, also related to how close to a fitting etc you are).

Temperature and voltage variations will affect the readings with some types of instrumentation... you need to study all that up if its a critical application.

if you just want some idea of water usage then pick the most rugged least sensitive option.

It is time to hire a competent Professional Engineer licensed to practice in your jurisdiction. It is not something I would do casually for free even if I were competent to do so.

I would be happy to perform surgery upon you for free. I may not know what to do but I would be happy to get the on-the-job training.

Some of us are so anxious to show what we know that we give away the store... I should develop a practice of saying... 'look... thats a good question but I make my living selling solutions, not spilling my brains without compensation'.. or maybe I will just laugh and say 'hire me, I will fix you right up'

Put a 40 gal barrel under the pipe and measure how long it takes to fill the barrel.
