Best aluminum alloy for press fit rings and bent tabs

Sep 24, 2006 0 Replies

I'm engineering an aluminum light that uses press fit ring spacers to hold seals and components inside a high strength (6061-T6?) 1.5 thin wall (.0625") tube.

The spacer rings (unless there is a better way) would be aluminum tube, necked to appropriate diameter and pressed into place.

Also the light will have some folded and stamped hinges and a lid with a stamped bevel edge. The hinges would be under tension, so they could be a thinner gauge to allow easier bending.

What would the best commonly available alloys for such pressing and stamping?

Any other help or direction for such a product is appreciated.
