buy a simple part instead of machinning it

Hi all,

I need 6 pieces of a steel part that looks like this. Exact dimensions are flexible by 50%.

It's a steel pointed ferrule to be attached to a wooden stick. I am currently away from the machine shop I have access to, so I am wondering if it's a standard piece (likely used for a different purpose) that I can buy somewhere (and save myself time, too).

Try an archery shop for "field points" -- some of them look exactly like that. If you aren't fussy about dimensions, should do you fine.

Even at 50% that would be a 1/2" arrow. Are shafts that big now?

Hardly!

Normally, they're 1/4" dia.

What the OP's looking for is a double-sized "Target Point".

BTW, that wouldn't be a "Field Point" but a "Target Point": a "Field Point" bottlenecks down to about a 1/8" dia thickness that, at its end, is pointed.

I found something that looks like what I need:

Here's a website that has a link to G&J Fabrication, that may be of some help. He does fabricated tools, in Camas Valley, Oregon.
