Metal for making Arts-n-Crafts lamp frame?

We're looking for a place to buy metal used to make frames for the stained glass found on Arts and Crafts style lamps and lanterns. What I don't know is if the metal pieces can be purchased, already formed to accept pieces of stained glass, meaning that we'd still have to cut and solder the frame together. Any info about how to pursue this would be greatly appreciated. ----- Thanks.

If I understand your post correctly, the metal you seek is called "came". A google search on "stained glass came" gets lots of hits.

Right, Don. Either "lead came", which is now mostly zinc, or one of the metal foils for the thinner, more intricate stained glass work such as Tiffany shades.

Ebay has some great prices on these SG items and tools.

Thank you for the replies. Actually, I'm looking for the metal used in the cheesy candle lanterns sold in most novelty stores and elsewhere such as Target, Wal-Mart, etc. The frames are very thin, light-weight metal, and some of them have channels built-in to hold the glass. In these frames, the glass itself is not soldered into place, but rather it's simply held in place by the frame's channels or by a small flange bent over the edge of the glass. I know we can probably purchase the metal in sheets from a metal supplier, but we thought we'd first ask if the pre-cut frames already exist for sale.
