Does anybody know of any locks that will mount on a chain link gate, will re-latch when gate swings shut and can use standard mortise cylinders? International Locking Devices has almost the right thing, but they use a proprietary keyway. I am looking for a unit that will take standard mortise cylinders, or at least offers some of the standard keysways.

Any info would be appreciated.

Chuck, Any fence company or weling company worth it's salt should be able to install a regular lock box into the gate, If you want to invest the money you could even have a box designed to accept an Adams-rite latch lock. Good luck!

Keedex makes weldable gate boxes which can be welded to any gate. They have various sizes and shapes, so you can almost decide what lock you want and get the box to match. Don't forget to order a box for the strike side!

One problem I have found with chain link gates and fences is that with repeated slamming, either the gate or fence post will turn. I have had to weld all the pieces together rather than rely on the tightness of the bolts that most fence installers install.

I have had some success with one of International's locks, the one that uses the wrap-around hook. It is not too much trouble to modify it so it uses a Schlage B250 type of latch instead of the Dexter/Master-style deadbolt it comes with, so after someone opens it with a key, they don't need to use a key to lock it again. Of course, they DO have to push the hook back down after they close the gate, so it probably won't solve your problem.

gate box designed for either adams rite or deadbolt installation ( like the lock boxs found on metal security screen doors)which,when welded in place will allow you to use your own keyway choice. Schlage makes a deadbolt that uses a gate latch(spring latch in 2 3/8 or 2 3/4) and you can use reto cyls with your choice of keyway. The big problem you face is keeping security. You will have to build an interlock where someone can't pry the posts apart to open the gate. Also build latch guards that protect the latch. If as in most cases due to life safety codes you will more than likely be required to use a single cyl deadbolt you will have to add a mesh or other means where someone can't reach thru and open the gate. Hope this helps and don't get down with the ammount of work required as it is good money and after the first one they sure go alot easier.

Howdy All, Am looking for a lock of some sort for a pool gate that is access control. It for a retirement village that has 4 pool gates around the perimeter. Some of the residents have now worked out how to open the pool gate latches & they are looking for some sort of digital system. Even if I go to electronic for the keypad side, I still can't find a lock to fit the narrow style of the standard pool fence. Any ideas?

Gary,

While I am in the US, I have found that it has been a lot easier to modify the gate to meet the needs of the hardware than it is to do it the other way. I would talk to the fence company and they will probably be able to send out a man and a truck and weld in a new section on the gate and any screen you require. Once I did this the first time, the fence company ended up buying the locks from me and having me consult with the complex's on the locks for their pool enclosures.
