WAKE UP!!! This is a litigious, omni-victim society. There is no turning back from that; most people will NOT take your type of advice. Actions have no negative consequences anymore.

5a) My tax money shouldn't go to bail out airlines that can't seem to make any profit, but are constantly going bankrupt and then blubbering and whining for the goobermint to give them billions of dollars. New rule: you mismanage your company, you go out of business and you don't get your executive parachute. Your shareholder's stock becomes worthless too.

See 5a) above. My tax dollars should not have to go to bail out companies that just 'don't want to' pay their legal obligations like pensions - see also the US PBGC fiasco.

_Your_ tax money won't. It'll be your children (or nieces and nephews) and mine who'll pay off the debt that our spend & borrow "Republican" party is running up.

Democrats make me gag, but at least I don't have to put the party name in quotes.

You are arguing from the general to the specific which is against the laws of logic. Eg. "I saw a green car today, it was a Ford...therefore all green cars are Fords."

As far as the people of NO; one analogy I could use is: I go on fly-in fishing trips. I pack enough extra supplies knowing that the plane could be days late (they have been) coming to pick me up. If I didn't, I could suffer great discomfort and hunger and thirst. If I lived below sea-level in a hurricane zone, I would prepare accordingly. I don't live in a disaster prone area yet I have stored water, food, batteries and other emergency supplies and multiple egress plans. I pity the people of NO but face it...they are stupid victims. (We gave $500 to SA...how about you? Can you prove it? Usually the whiners do nothing but whine.)

I'm a little surprised, Gunner, that you didn't add to #1 "Or stay. It's your choice. If you do, though, accept that you're on your own and don't expect anyone to bail you oiut."

I rather expect that that's what you'd have done, no? You don't stay if you're downwind of a dam that's about to go. But a hurricane is something that, unless you're in a really bad spot, you should be able to get through.

When Rita was still in the Gulf, the Authorities here ordered a Mandatory Evacuation.

After watching, and evaluating for myself, the path of the storm, I elected to stay put even though we'd already prepared to evacuate. [The 37' Fifth-wheel was already loaded with food, water, clothing, and gas for the generator, and hitched to my fully-fuelled truck that, itself, already loaded with additional fuel for itself (and the generator) and most of my portable tools.]

As it was, the closest that the outer rain squalls came to us was 10 miles away.

Actually, I am refuting your assertion that there are no consequences to bad behavior. I simply observed that the people of N.O. who did the wrong thing had to pay the consequences for their actions, and the price was a high one. I think that was a pretty fair refuting of your claim.

That's nice that you contributed to help the unfortunate. But again your analogy to your fly fishing trip is not a good one. You choose to take the trip and have the resources to prepare for any eventuality. That's hardly the situation the poor in N.O. faced is it? They knew only that a storm was coming and they were told to leave. If they had your resources and brains they would have acted differently, but they didn't. Accordingly, they acted as you would expect them too. Many cattle and other livestock were killed too. Expecting them to have taken steps to avoid their demise is not much different than what you expected from the lowest class in L.A. You can't blame people for being stupid any more than you can blame them for being short. You need to develop more understanding of the less fortunate.

You can bet all those people had televisions. Everyone in the country watched that monster moving toward the coastline for a week. It's size was breathtaking, the weathercasters were in Red Alert Rhetoric mode. Even Helen Keller would have been aware of it.

I understand that people who embrace Darwin's Theory of Evolution can't seem to grasp his "survival of the fittest" corrolary.

I didn't see a line at the highway wanting out. Naturally they got bad vibes from the various local governments - not school buses - only first class. There went a day or two. It would not matter to me one way or the other. In fact, most of our kids at one time or another went on a band trip or football trip .....track... the same distance or more by school bus.

In fact, one young man stole a school bus and drove it to pick up and take out some people.

Not only that, did you see the condition of the people left behind? They all seemed to be old, sick, 100 lbs. overweight, and generally in such bad physical condition there was no way for many of them to move at all, let along travel to parts unknown. This was a case of the most "unfit" having to perform. They couldn't. Why am I not surprised?

60 hours per week at $7.50 per hour is $23,400 per year.....raising you above the poverty level, and giving you some jingle in your pocket....

When I was a kid - in the early '60s - I worked 60 hours per week in a gas station for $75.00 take home....

I now own my own home with seven more monthly payments to full ownership, several cars, and a shop full of tools and equipment - the most expensive hobby shop in the neighborhood.. But, Jesse and Al will try to convince you that it is, somehow, un-American to work long-and-hard towards a goal....

Not even as good as poorly cooked mutton. It's all that aspartame, saccharin, Canadian cyclamates, and Mexican spices they eat. Getting difficult to find one with enough fat for flavor, at least among the "health-conscious" ones.
