repairing small metal part

My house has very old metal casement windows. The handle that you use to open and close them (and lock them) is attached via a small bracket that screws onto the window frame. I am trying to repair a bracket that broke in half. I tried gluing the piece back together with JB Weld epoxy but the repair didn't hold. Is there anything else I can try? Would soldering or brazing work, and if so, what type of solder would I use? I don't know what metal the bracket is made of. As an alternate, anyone know a source for very old window parts?

I've used their local office (Chicago) several times over the years, and they have never failed to find me something.

Usually I bring them what's left of the part, and they figure it out and order the replacement.

Blaine has a pretty decent catalog. I think Schiffler's carries replacement hardware as well, mostly institutional stuff.

I had the same propblem and my parts were pot metal. maybe zinc based. nothing held. I had to replace them. Took a long time to find replacements. If you want the name let me know and I will go root around until I find the spares.
