5 therms per hour at $1.08 per therm costs $5.40 an hour. Figure 5 hours a day to power the fridge, microwave, computer, heat water or provide space heat for 27 dollarettes per day, running wide open.
Even if the outage lasts a week, you are out a couple hundred dollarettes to live like a (relative) king and provide drop cords to your favorite neighbors.
All this without having to pick up a single diesel can.
I've spent a *lot* more to get a *lot* less. :)
